Bible Chapter: Joel 3

Because the Bible is practical, here are some statements to get you thinking.

1.  Write one or two key thoughts that come from today’s reading.
Joel ends his short book writing about Israel’s future restoration.  And, here’s the good news, God will righteously judge all nations of the world.  The Valley of Jehoshaphat, which is interpreted the “valley where the Lord judges,” has also been called “the valley of decision”.  This is where God will put into effect judgment on the nations that come to destroy Jerusalem.  It is important to know that God will defend and rescue His faithful followers as well as destroy all evil.  God will judge nations for cruelty.  God will hold us accountable for how we treat people so we must not be involved in cruelty.  Tyre and Sidon are examples of cities that had been especially cruel to Israel.  God will come against all the nations that come against God’s people in the end.  All rebellious people will be called to answer for their sin.

2.  What can I apply in my life from the reading?
I had the privilege of being in Jerusalem several years ago.  One day I stood on the balcony of the hotel, looking at the old city.  The thought came to me that this is the most fought-over piece of real estate in the world.  This prophetic book ends with the promise that Jerusalem will someday be set free.  It will be free from all the enemies that have worked so hard to destroy it.  God’s presence will fill the place.  God’s final judgment against evil people will one day be complete.  His eternal kingdom will be fully established.  Those who repent will be blessed to be with God forever.  Those who refuse to repent from their sin will face God’s wrath and judgment.

3.  How can I help someone?
Good news.  There is forgiveness and hope for life.  The enemy has come to steal all the joy and peace in the world. Many have given up.  We never have to give up because God wins in the end.
