Bible Chapter: Amos 3 & 4

Because the Bible is practical, here are some statements to get you thinking.

1.  Write one or two key thoughts that come from today’s reading.
With a series of seven rhetorical questions, Amos linked events together. One event naturally leads to the other.  This series of questions can only bring one clear response. We see the principle of cause and effect. God's revelation was the sure sign that judgment was coming.  Their sin would lead to a specific outcome, God’s judgment.  Because of their corrupt and defiant behavior they walked away from the special relationship with God that they had once enjoyed.  Amos obeyed God and  pronounced judgment.  There were some arrogant, upper-class women who drank their wine and lived the high life.  They didn’t care that they were oppressing the poor.  They received an especially harsh punishment.
Sin yet more.  This is a concept and lifestyle that so many miss.  I am reminded of a woman brought to Jesus in the midst of her sin.  He forgave her and said she should go and sin no more. Repentance requires a change in lifestyle, turning around and going the other way.  Jesus didn’t come so we could keep on sinning.  He came to deliver us from sin.  True believers can never take pleasure in things that do not measure up to God’s standards of holiness.  God told His people to prepare to meet your God.

2.  What can I apply in my life from the reading?
Amos 3:3 is a verse I have referenced many times.  It asks a powerful question.  Is it possible to walk together, to live and work together, unless there is agreement on the basic truths and issues of life?  This is a critical question for a man and woman to ask who are considering getting married.  The most important foundational agreement in marriage has to be spiritual.  Jesus is the Savior, He is the one and only way to God the Father.  Personal salvation must be in their hearts.  Jesus must really be the lord of both husband and wife.  No true companionship can exist unless they agree on the basics.
To have a true relationship with we must accept His Word as HIS Word that is not up for negotiation.  The Bible tells us all about God and we must follow it.  It is impossible to really be saved and reject the Bible.

3.  How can I help someone?
Read the Bible and learn what it says.  Learn to follow it with God’s guidance and help.
